Environmental Bill of Rights
This email is an FYI. I want to keep you informed, as some of you supported this initiative in the past.
As you may recall, Hudson town council approved the Declaration to the Right to a Healthy Environment presented by the 1st Cavagnal Scout Troop in April of 2015.
Since then, many other Canadian municipalities have passed similar declarations. The goal has now shifted to getting the Federal government to pass a Bill of Environmental Rights. Such a bill would go a long way to protecting our safety and to protecting the places we love.
I have attached a short article by David Suzuki that summarizes very well what is happening, and the approach being taken by the David Suzuki Foundation. Please feel free to pass this article on to the Scouts and now Venturers who helped with the Hudson declaration.
I am currently working with the Foundation to help pass the Bill. In the coming months, as volunteers with the Foundation move forward and approach our Federal members of parliament (see the article), I may again ask for your support. With your help, I really hope we can make a Federal Bill of Environmental Rights a reality.
Yours in Scouting,
